We’ve all done it. We had one too many the night before, you feel like sh** and you look in the mirror and you think, “how did I get that old”. You look at your phone and realize you have brunch with your Aunt and you need to look a lot less Alice Cooper and a lot more Mother Theresa.
The below tips will help anyone go quickly from bloodshot to hotshot giving the illusion of an early night to bed.
HYDRATE. Alcohol consumption dehydrates the body – that is a fact -and dehydration is one of the major factors why you feel the way you do the morning after a little too much party. The best thing to do when you are drinking is to chase each alcoholic drink with a glass of water – since you can’t go back in time now, grab a tall glass of water and drink. Better idea is to have a sports drink or similar beverage with electrolytes in it. Drinks with electrolytes regulate our nerve and muscle function, our body’s hydration, blood pH, blood pressure, and the rebuilding of damaged tissue.
Pro Tip: Mix equal parts Pedialyte and Gatorade for the ultimate morning after hydrator.
LOSE THE PUFF. Tired, puffy eyes is common collateral damage from a night of listless abandon. Using eye pads or an eye gel with caffeine will greatly reduce puffiness, make your eye area look awake, and help diminish any dark circles.
Pro Tip: Keep 2nd Skin Moist Burn Pads in your refrigerator, trim to size and place on the swollen area. Since they are made of mostly pure sterile water and hydrogel product (moisturizes), when cooled it constricts blood vessels (shrink puffiness).
GIVE GOOD FACE. Dry skin tends to look more tired and wrinkly – so combat that with a heavier moisturizer mixed with a few drops of a liquid luminizer to give your face extra glow. Avoid heavy liquid makeup and foundation powders because they tend to cake and flake. Instead use a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin. Cream bronzers will give your skin added health. Finish off with a hydrating facial mist.
Pro Tip: Add a couple of drops of MAC Strobe Cream to your moisturizer to give your skin that extra healthy glowy boost.
BRIGHTEN UP. Bloodshot eyes are a dead giveaway of being on the VIP list a little too long the night before. Eyedrops help – but can loose its effectiveness over time and can increase redness with continued use. My favorite makeup trick for bright eyes: blue or navy eyeliner and mascara. Using a thin smudgy blue liner on the upper lid can make the eyes much brighter than a harsh black line. Curling your lashes creates a strong 45 degree angle that opens the eye space and gives the illusion of sleep and a more awake eye. Sweep on at least two coats of mascara to the upper lash line – and avoid mascara on the lower lashes to decrease the chance of drawing attention to dark circles with mascara smudges.
Pro Tip: The waterproof Urban Decay 24/7 in Abyss (Glittery True Blue), Chaos (Electric Blue), LSD (Glittery Midnight Blue), Mainline (Matte Grey-Blue), or Sabbath (Midnight Blue). Tons of colors to choose from and it’s stay proof power is legendary. Then sweep on your favorite waterproof mascara.
ACE THE COIF. A great dry shampoo can work wonders on morning-after hair by sopping up oils and whisking away an bar-infused scents. Let’s say you already hopped into the shower but the hairdryer is too loud? Opt then for a sleek low ponytail and wrap some of your hair around the elastic to camouflage for a polished finish.
Pro Tip: Totally in love with the Goldwell Kerasilk Color Gentle Dry Shampoo – total mouthful, but a few sprays of this and it refreshens the hair without the use of water.
